About Hemingways Zambia
Our vehicles have been designed so they can be used by anyone from an African bush beginner to an experienced off-road driver. We can advise you on the best route to match your experience and your needs.
In addition to the freedom a self-drive holiday provides, you also experience luxury camping. Our vehicles are fully equipped with everything from the bedding to the kitchen sink! Please see ‘The Equipment’ section for more details. If you decide that camping is not for you, then why not book yourself into lodges along your route, after all we all deserve a little pampering every now and then!
The vehicles are Zambian registered and come with all the paperwork required to take them across borders, meaning your adventure is not limited to Zambia alone, Botswana, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Mozambique and South Africa are also waiting to be explored.
We don’t want your adventure to be restricted by the number of kilometres you do, so unlike many other companies unlimited mileage is included in our daily rate – please contact us for current rates.
As our vehicles have been adapted with Zambian road travel in mind (please see ‘The Vehicles’ section for more details) they are also a popular choice with teams coming to Zambia and surrounding countries for special work projects. Whether it be reporting the news, filming adventure programs or surveying new pieces of land, our vehicles can provide transport and accommodation.
WHO WE ARE
Hemingways was founded in 2003 by Pete Hemingway and his wife Annabel Faulks.
Pete and Annabel, originally from the UK, decided after many years of travel in Africa they wanted to start a company that offers other people the chance to experience what they have been lucky enough to enjoy over the years.
Pete is an above knee amputee, so his original focus for the business was to increase the opportunities for disabled travelers’ in Livingstone and the surrounding areas. However, over the years the business has diversified and expanded and we now concentrate on hiring fully equipped 4×4’s for self-drive adventures.
Hemingways remains a family business to this day, and Pete and Annabel hope that their two sons (Thomas and Charlie) will keep the business going for many years to come…they are both showing a keen interest in all aspects of the company!
OUR TEAM
WILSON
Wilson has been with the company for over 12 years, and is not only a fully trained guide but has a wealth of knowledge of the local area. Wilson is the main reason that our fully equipped 4×4’s are prepared and ready to leave the yard, on time, every time.
OLIVER
Oliver has been with Hemingways for the past six years and brings with him his far-reaching expertise of Southern Africa as an ex-overland guide and driver.
